You can lose all of your capital

Trading foreign exchange, gold, indices and contracts for difference (CFDs) on margin carries a high level of risk. Because these products are leveraged, a small movement in the market can produce a large loss relative to the money you deposited, and you may lose your entire investment. Industry data published by regulators consistently shows that a majority of retail traders lose money. You should never trade with money you cannot afford to lose, with borrowed money, or with funds needed for living costs or debt repayments.

Leverage works in both directions

Leverage increases losses just as much as it increases gains. Volatility in gold (XAUUSD) in particular can be sudden and severe around economic releases, central bank announcements and geopolitical events. Gaps, slippage and widened spreads mean a stop loss is not a guarantee that your position closes at the price you specified.
